What is Agent?
Agent! now supports macOS 14.6 or later, Apple Silicon and Intel, latest release. The Best AI agent for Mac: drives any app via Accessibility, codes/builds in Xcode, automates AppleScript, JXA, Swift and SMAppService shell (user/root). 23 LLM providers, local/cloud, plus on-device Apple Intelligence and Jev guard. Auto-Pilot, MCP, Avatar.
Overview of Agent
What it is
Agent! is a native Swift 6.4 / SwiftUI app for macOS 14.6 or later (Apple Silicon and Intel). It wires 23 LLM providers (including Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, Grok, Ollama, and on-device Apple Intelligence) into an autonomous task loop that can read codebases, fix bugs, build Xcode projects, drive any Mac app through the Accessibility API, run shell commands (user or root), send iMessage results, and respond to voice commands. No NPM, no Electron, no subscription, no telemetry. Bring your own API key, run fully local, or run free on Apple Intelligence.
Key features
- Self-verifying task loop — reasons, executes, observes results, self-corrects; a task cannot declare itself done until goal_state criteria are marked with evidence.
- Agentic coding — reads codebases, edits with string-replace diffs, builds Xcode projects natively, manages git, indexes repos into portable JSONL repo-map; every edit is snapshotted with one-click rollback.
- Desktop automation — drives any Mac app through the Accessibility API (AXorcist), plus NSAppleScript, JXA, and 51 ScriptingBridge app bridges.
- AgentScript — Swift dylibs compiled at runtime and dlopen'd in-process with full TCC; deleted scripts are restorable from Trash.
- Privileged execution — shell as user (Launch Agent) or as root (Launch Daemon) via SMAppService + XPC.
- Voice and iMessage remote control — say “Agent!” then task; on-device speech recognition. Text commands from iPhone via approved senders.
- MCP support — add any MCP server (stdio or HTTP) in Settings; tools appear as mcp__.
Use cases
- Automated development workflows — “Build the Xcode project and fix any errors,” refactor classes, manage git commits.
- Desktop automation — “Play my Workout playlist in Music,” “Take a photo with Photo Booth,” “Open Safari and search for flights to Tokyo.”
- Remote control — send iMessage commands like “Agent! next song” from an iPhone.
- Cross-app scripting — drive any Mac app with no manual scripting using the Accessibility API or AppleScript.
