What is collie?

Herdr mobile client for iPhone and Android. A self-hosted PWA to drive Claude Code, Pi, Codex and OpenCode in Herdr, tmux or zellij from your phone. Push alerts, no app store.

Overview of collie

What it is

Collie is an open-source (MIT) self-hosted progressive web app (PWA) that serves as a mobile client for Herdr, with experimental support for tmux and zellij. It lets users drive terminal-based AI agents such as Claude Code, Codex, and OpenCode from an iPhone or Android phone. Each instance connects to one terminal multiplexer and is served over Tailscale by default. The app is single-user, supports one operator on one tailnet, and does not use the App Store or Google Play; it is added to the phone's home screen from the browser.

Key features

  • Status dashboard that prioritizes panes needing user input, with per-workspace tabs
  • Push notifications when an agent blocks on user input
  • Customizable key board with Esc, Ctrl+C, arrows, modifier combinations, sticky Ctrl/Alt/Shift, and presets (Claude Code, Prefix, Vim)
  • Start new agents or commands from the phone via a single page that shows available machines, agents, folders, and worktrees
  • Output search and full conversation history beyond standard terminal scrollback
  • Files screen with workspace changes, git diffs with syntax coloring, and last commit (read-only)
  • Device pairing requiring a token for every request; unpaired browsers see only the pair screen
  • Crews: multiple machines' Collie instances behind one URL with operator-triggered failover
  • Twelve UI languages and per-device typeface setting
  • No telemetry; the app sends no analytics or usage statistics

Use cases

Collie is for developers running AI agents in a terminal multiplexer who want to resume sessions from a phone. It replaces the need to SSH into a tmux or zellij session via Termux and use on-screen TUI controls. Use cases include checking on agents while away from the desk, responding to prompts with the phone's keyboard, and sending special keys (Esc, Ctrl+C) with one thumb.

Getting started

Run this on the host (not the phone). It requires curl, tar, and a sha256 utility:bashcurl -fsSL https://colliepwa.dev/install.sh | shThe script downloads the latest release, verifies the checksum, installs files, and puts collie on the PATH. After installation, seed a config and run collie start. On first run, it detects Herdr, tmux, and zellij and prompts for your choice. For manual builds or installation details, see the repository README.

License and pricing

Collie is open-source under the MIT license. The pricing type is open source; no pricing information is stated beyond being open-source.
