What is image-to-3dlab?
AssetFurnace: the most complete open-source image-to-3D pipeline (Oct 2026). Prompt or picture → textured, rigged, animated game character, locally on Apple Silicon or NVIDIA. Pixal3D, TRELLIS.2, Hunyuan3D, SF3D, auto-rig and 21 moves. For indie game devs and 3D artists. Free, Apache-2.0.
Overview of image-to-3dlab
What it is
AssetFurnace (formerly Image to 3D Lab) is an open-source pipeline that converts a text prompt or a picture into a textured, rigged, and animated game character. It runs locally on Apple Silicon or NVIDIA hardware. No data is uploaded, and there are no credit systems.
Key features
- Rigged and animated characters: Describe a humanoid or drop a picture; get back a textured model with a skeleton and one of 21 animation presets (walk, run, jump, dance, kicks, etc.) as a GLB file.
- Studio interface: Includes a Library, a 3D viewer, and a Steps panel. The Create step runs all stages automatically, and the user can stop after any step.
- Pixel Match: Copies the real pixels from the source image back onto the model, preserving text, logos, and faces even after reduction to approximately 5k faces.
- Prop sheets: Generate one picture holding a grid of props and turn the whole sheet into separate, upright, named props with three levels of detail (LODs) and compressed textures in a single run.
- Multiple backends: Supports Pixal3D, TRELLIS.2, Hunyuan3D, and Stable Fast 3D, all accessible through one studio and one CLI.
- Game-size files: The Finish step converts a heavy generated model into a light, compressed one.
- MCP agent support: Claude Code, Codex, and other MCP clients can create, check, and tweak assets.
- License tracking: Every file carries a record of the licenses behind it.
Use cases
Indie game developers and 3D artists who need to quickly generate game-ready characters and props locally without uploading data to external services. Suitable for prototyping, asset creation, and animation.
Getting started
Mac (Apple Silicon) or Linux: bash curl -fsSL https://assetfurnace.com/install.sh | bash Windows (limited testing): powershell irm https://assetfurnace.com/install.ps1 | iex After installation, start the studio with ./lab in the install folder. The installer does not download model weights; they are chosen in Setup & Status.
License and pricing
The project is open source under the Apache-2.0 license. Individual backends have their own licenses (MIT, Tencent Community License, etc.). The software is free to use.
