Overview of dac
What it is
DaC is a dashboard-as-code tool for defining, validating, and serving dashboards from YAML and TSX. It supports major databases via Bruin, including Postgres, MySQL, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks, and more. It includes a built-in semantic layer where metrics and dimensions are defined once in a semantic/ directory and referenced from any widget; DAC generates the SQL. The tool is designed for AI agents to build dashboards in a reliable and reviewable way.
Key features
- Dynamic charts, tabs, loops, and conditionals using TSX.
- Supports major databases: Postgres, MySQL, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks, and more via Bruin.
- Built-in semantic layer: define metrics and dimensions once in
semantic/, reference them from any widget; DAC generates the SQL. - Designed for AI agents to build dashboards in a reliable and reviewable way.
- Includes bundled dashboard authoring skills for Claude and Codex (installed via
dac init). - Provides example projects for YAML, TSX, and semantic dashboards under
examples/.
Use cases
- Building interactive dashboards using YAML configuration files.
- Creating dynamic layouts with TSX that can query the database at load time.
- Leveraging a semantic layer to maintain consistent metrics and dimensions across dashboards.
- Enabling AI agents to generate standardized, reviewable dashboards.
- Using the bundled example projects (basic-yaml, basic-tsx, semantic-yaml, semantic-tsx) as starting points.
Getting started
Install the latest stable DAC release: bash curl -LsSf https://getbruin.com/install/dac | sh Create a new starter project and validate/serve it: bash dac init my-dashboards cd my-dashboards dac validate --dir . dac validate --dir . --with-database dac serve --dir . --open For existing projects, run dac skills install --dir . to install the bundled skills.
