What is Mysti?

AI coding dream team of agents for VS Code. Claude Code + openai Codex collaborate in brainstorm mode, debate solutions, and synthesize the best approach for your code.

Overview of Mysti

What it is

Mysti is an open-source coding workspace that integrates multiple AI agents within VS Code. It connects CLI agents, local model servers, and the DeepMyst-powered Mysti coordinator, allowing users to ask for independent opinions from agents like Claude Code and OpenAI Codex, hand off tasks between them, and keep all responses, context, and progress in one conversation. The current version is 2.0 BETA, a pre-release package.

Key features

  • Parallel opinions: Tag multiple agents (e.g., @claude @codex) to get concurrent, independently attributed answers.
  • Cross-agent handoffs: Use then to chain tasks (e.g., @claude Design a retry policy, then @codex review it), with progress cards and dependency blocking.
  • 16 provider adapters: Choose from registered adapters including Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, Google Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot CLI, Cline, Cursor, and the Mysti coordinator.
  • Brainstorm mode: Select two agents and a discussion strategy (Quick, Debate, Red Team, Perspectives, Delphi) to analyze and synthesize responses.
  • Proactive context: Bring local Git changes and DeepMyst-connected GitHub/Slack evidence into an inbox before starting a task.
  • Connected tools: Integrate apps and MCP servers through DeepMyst's Composio and Smithery catalogs.

Use cases

  • Getting a second opinion on a code question without rewriting the prompt.
  • Designing a solution with one agent and having another review it for edge cases.
  • Running structured discussions (Brainstorm) to evaluate proposals from multiple perspectives.
  • Keeping all agent interactions, context, and permissions in a single conversation for complex workflows.

Getting started

  1. Install Mysti from the VS Code Marketplace, or install the reviewed beta VSIX via Extensions → Install from VSIX.2. Open a trusted local workspace. Mysti supports VS Code 1.86 or newer on Windows, macOS, and Linux.3. Open Mysti and choose your agent. The setup screen checks installation and authentication.4. Start with a small task, e.g., @claude Explain the main entry point.
