Overview of coucou
What it is
Coucou is an open-source desktop and mobile application that monitors AI coding agent sessions. It lives in the Mac notch (or top of screen on Windows and Linux) and also runs on iPhone and Android. The app features a character named Mochi, a soft squircle with eyes that appears from the notch and reacts to agent activity. Coucou is released under the MIT License, with the Coucou name, Mochi, and associated sounds reserved to Louis Raillé.
Key features
- Monitors sessions from Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI, Antigravity, Copilot CLI, Muse Code, OpenCode, Amp, Hermes, Claude Desktop, and other agents, showing reads, edits, and runs step by step.
- Allows approving or denying permission requests and answering questions directly from the notch, with options like Allow / Deny / Always for Claude Code and Codex.
- Provides a chat interface supporting Claude, Gemini, OpenAI, DeepSeek, Qwen, Moonshot, and local models via Ollama or LM Studio (cloud providers use your own API key; local providers connect to a server on your Mac).
- Includes a portfolio pill for tracking cryptocurrency across 16 networks and 5 exchanges, showing live balances, 7-day sparklines, and 24-hour price changes (macOS).
- Offers integrations with Stripe, n8n, GitHub, Vercel, Resend, Notion, and Cal.com, each with its own colored Mochi indicator.
- Has an iPhone companion with Live Activity, Dynamic Island, widgets, and Siri support, and an Android companion by @Rhytam23.
- Is private by design: no telemetry, no account; API keys are stored in the system keychain (macOS Keychain, Windows Credential Manager, or Linux Secret Service).
Use cases
- Monitoring AI coding agent activity without switching windows.
- Approving permissions and answering agent questions from the notch or Lock Screen.
- Chatting with multiple AI models (cloud or local) from the notch.
- Tracking cryptocurrency portfolio balances and price changes.
- Integrating with development tools and services like GitHub, Stripe, and Vercel.
- Using the mobile companion to stay updated when away from the desktop.
