Overview of gawkbot
What it is
gawkbot is an open source Grok Bot that runs on your own machine. It turns manual workflows into microapps with over 1200 integrations. Describe a job in one sentence, and the AI builds a bot with its own screen, schedule, tools, and a human approval gate on every external action. It runs locally on your machine, on your account. The companion app lives on your iPhone. The name comes from the verb “gawk” (to stare openly and stupidly).
Key features
- Converts manual workflows into microapps with a live screen, routines, tools, knowledge pages, typed data tables, and 1200+ integrations.
- Every write action (send, commit, purchase, delete) waits for your approval before executing.
- Runs on your machine with your own API keys; no cloud dependency.
- Adopts existing agent CLIs already on your machine (Claude Code, Codex, Opencode, Gemini CLI, Cursor CLI, Aider, Goose, Amp, Qwen Code, Copilot CLI, Crush, Droid, Ollama, MLX-LM, Exo, OpenClaw, Hermes gateways, Cursor and Windsurf IDEs).
- Mac notch interface: shows bot status, supports keyboard shortcuts and voice input (hold V to talk).
- iPhone companion app (build from source in
apps/ios) provides the same inbox, hold-to-talk replies, sounds, and haptics. - Free, open source, no account or usage fees.
Use cases
- Automate repetitive tasks such as auditing a HubSpot account, scoring leads, or posting to a Slack channel.
- Build custom microapps for any workflow that involves data, integrations, and scheduled routines.
- Manage multiple bots from a single Chief of Staff interface, with approval gates on all external actions.
