Overview of CozyClay
What it is
CozyClay is an open source previs studio that runs entirely in a browser tab. Built with Three.js and React Three Fiber, it lets users block a scene, pose characters, author camera moves and cuts on a timeline, then export the same shots for use with AI video models such as Seedance, Kling, Veo, MiniMax H3, Wan 3.0, LTX Desktop, and fal render-to-real. The project is created and maintained by Doyun at NomaDamas.
Key features
- Stage a scene: create primitives and set pieces, move/rotate/scale with a transform gizmo; cast rigged characters or capsule figures (rigless stand-ins with fixed postures).
- Fly the camera: right-drag to fly, middle-drag to pan, Alt+drag to orbit; switch to Camera mode to look through the shot camera.
- Cut and move the camera: add shots on the timeline, draw dolly rails on the Top-View, set speed/height/crane, and preview moves.
- Export for AI video: one Export menu provides a keyframe pack (first/last frame, clip, camera JSON, prompt, README) as a zip, an mp4 of the shot, depth + normal conditioning passes, a storyboard contact sheet, and an OTIO cut list.
- Undo anything: every scene mutation (drag, scrub, inspector edit, agent camera key) is a single undo entry; Esc cancels an in-flight drag.
- Compile motion: an agent writes a motion spec and a deterministic compiler bakes every frame on the X Bot or Y Bot rig; QA measures collisions, foot slide, reach, and contacts.
- Direct it with an AI: open the Agent panel (Cmd/Ctrl+B), sign in with ChatGPT, and ask for a shot in plain language; or connect Claude, any MCP client, or drive the Studio from a terminal with
cclay live.
Use cases
- Previsualization for film, animation, or game cinematics.
- Blocking scenes and planning camera moves before production.
- Generating structured prompts and reference clips for AI video models.
- Creating storyboards with still panels or animatics with moving shots.
- Collaborative shot planning via the Agent panel or MCP clients.
