What is neuro-book?

An AI-powered IDE for long-form fiction writing, combining software engineering workflows, modern storytelling methodologies, and multi-agent systems.

Overview of neuro-book

What it is

NeuroBook is an AI-powered IDE for long-form fiction writing. It combines software engineering practices and creative writing methodologies into a shared toolset for the author and AI. The world state is computed by an engine rather than memorized by the model; foreshadowing is tracked like technical debt; the manuscript is linted with 360 rules. The work is stored as local Markdown files and SQLite.

Key features

  • World Engine: Event-sourced state engine that prevents setting drift. Uses timeline + snapshots for state calculation. Supports custom calendars and auditable changes. Agent read/write permissions are separated.
  • Plot Workbench: Promise system for tracking foreshadowing (plant, advance, fulfill). Decision records with risk fields. Chapter information control (what reader/knows, what must be hidden). Scenes anchored to world timeline, locations, and characters.
  • Multi-Agent Writing Studio: Leader, writer, retrieval/researcher agents with distinct roles. Three modes (discuss, plan, apply) requiring user approval for mode switches. Inline AI editing within the editor.
  • llmlint: 360 rules to detect AI-typical writing patterns (filler words, mechanical transitions, formulaic questions, etc.). Static rules scan the full manuscript in seconds; LLM rules handle context; auto-fix for mechanical issues.
  • Data self-sovereignty: All files (lorebook, manuscript, world-engine config) are local Markdown/TypeScript + project-level SQLite. No cloud lock-in, portable.

Use cases

Long-form fiction writing where authors need to manage complex settings, track foreshadowing across hundreds of chapters, maintain consistent world state, avoid AI-typical writing patterns, and integrate multiple tools into one workspace. Suitable for novels, series, or any narrative with intricate plots and character arcs.
