What is BGPalerter?
BGP and RPKI monitoring tool. Pre-configured for real-time detection of visibility loss, RPKI invalid announcements, hijacks, ROA misconfiguration, and more.
Overview of BGPalerter
What it is
BGPalerter is a self-configuring BGP and RPKI monitoring tool that connects to public BGP data repositories. It runs locally without requiring any additional data sources or network connections to your infrastructure. The tool provides real-time detection of routing anomalies such as hijacks, visibility loss, RPKI invalid announcements, and ROA changes.
Key features
- Real-time detection of prefix hijacks, visibility loss, and RPKI invalid announcements - Monitors ROA expiration, ROA diff changes, and RPKI Trust Anchor malfunctions - Detects announcements of new prefixes, unexpected AS path peers, and more specific prefixes - Supports multiple alert delivery channels: file, email, Slack, Kafka, Syslog, Telegram, and others - Auto-configuration on first run – no manual setup of data sources required
Use cases
- Network operators who want to detect hijacks or misconfigurations affecting their prefixes - Organizations that need to ensure their AS does not announce RPKI invalid prefixes - Monitoring ROA validity and expiration for covered prefixes - Tracking unexpected changes in AS path composition or new prefix announcements
Getting started
- Download the binary for your OS from the repository releases page. 2. Make it executable and run:
chmod +x bgpalerter-linux-x64 && ./bgpalerter-linux-x643. On first run, auto-configuration starts. Alerts appear inlogs/reports.log. For other installation methods (source, Docker, Debian package), see the repository README.
